Still waiting for the Historic Parks Survey

There isn't much to report!  The outcome of the Historic Parks Survey is still awaited.  Is "no news" good news or bad news?  Who knows?

Ashmole Academy reports that it has had its interview with the Department for Education but does not expect to hear whether its application to open a primary school on their premises can go ahead.

There would be three stages to the process if the Grovelands school were to go ahead.  The first stage, which we are still in, is the Historic Parks Survey and (essentially) getting English Heritage to agree that the concept of a school on the site is acceptable.  The second stage would be detailed design (to which English Heritage could still object).  The third stage would be to apply for planning permission, when traffic and other normal planning issues would be considered.  English Heritage could still object at this stage, even if they had allowed it to go forward at the two previous stages.  The council have earmarked funding for the second and third stages but we arre assured that no money will be spent on these stages in advance of getting it through the first stage.

A Grovelands school would be in the wrong place

As we have said repeatedly, the Grovelands school would be in the wrong place to meet the bulk of increased demand within South West Enfield. There is a detailed analysis available on our website but the following conveys the gist of it.

Park gates proposal

There is still time to express your opposition to the council's proposal to leave all park gates open, as the final decision will not be made until April.  The Friends of Grovelands have a petition.  You may already have signed this at the St Nicholas Fair before Christmas on Winchmore Hill Green, or through the leaflet drop to all houses backing on to the park.  If you wish to express your opposition but have not yet done so, please e-mail Mick McDonagh of the Friends.

Firs Farm needs your vote!

The Friends of Firs Farm would be delighted if you could express your support for their development of a wildlife and wetland area, along with a cycle path on what is currently "green" but a bit dull!.  This is one of seven Londonwide projects competing for funding from the Mayor of London's Big Green fund.  It is the only project in Enfield in the compeition.  See Firs Farm needs your vote.
